TAVERNS | REST/NTS | CAFES | BARS
Limassol offers many choices to visitors, from food of all international cuisines to traditional taverns serving the local delicacies. Extravagant gourmet food is also on the table, in select restaurants all over the island.
A variety of fish restaurants in Limassol are scattered throughout the coastal line, while local taverns and restaurants are located in every district of the city. The best ambience for a sit-down for food is without a doubt within the old city of Limassol, where you can dine in a narrow stone paved alleyway and enjoy excellent Cypriot food, both day and night.
Every traditional Meze in Cyprus begins with a set of starters – usually: olives, bread, hummus, tahini and other dips. The main courses include practically everything; vegetables, lentils, fish, all types of meat and pasta. “Ofton kleftikon”, which is lamb cooked in traditional clay ovens with potatoes, is a must.
Now time for dessert. Traditional Cyprus sweets are unique in taste. “Pourekkia” (fried pastries filled with white cheese and covered with honey or powder sugar) and “ladies fingers” (thin bits of pastry stuffed with almonds and sugar, fried and smothered in syrup) are just two examples of local desserts that would be a grand finale to your meal.
