The beautiful village of Gourri
The community of Gourri located on the East side of the Troodos Mountain range on the foothills of the forest of Macheras at a distance of 35 kilometers from the capital, Nicosia. It has a rich geographical repousse with an average altitude of 900 meters. The highest peak is ‘’Moutti tis Roudkias’’ located above the ‘’Nero tou Romiou’’ opposite Kionia which are found 2 kilometers south of Macheras.
Gourri Village

It has a rich geographical repousse with an average altitude of 900 meters. The highest peak is ‘’Moutti tis Roudkias’’ located above the ‘’Nero tou Romiou’’ opposite Kionia which are found 2 kilometers south of Macheras.
The region is flooded with tributaries od the river Serrachi. Gouri borders with the villages: Kalo Chorio, Agio Epifanio, Framaka, Odou, Lazania and Fikardou. Archeological finds suggest its inhabitance since the 5th century B.C., while the use of the name seems to exist since 800A.D. It is believed that the specific name comes either from the first residents of the village Kyriako Vourio, or from the feudal lord Jacob de Gourri.
In 1960 the village had about 600 residents, while the current permanent residents come up to about 300. This number increases during the weekends and during the holiday season due to the return of expatriates and tourism.
The products produced in Gourri are grapes, wines, zivania, almonds, olives, vegetables, tomatoes, fruits.
In the village Fold architecture Is dominant with stone-built houses and paved roads. Apart from the picturesque character of the village the visitor can enjoy different sites such as the church of Saint George (1898 A.D.), Folk art Museum, the Weaving workshop the Appiary while the Nature trail which ends at the Mavritsio waterfall is a must.
The central street of the village was recently upgraded with pavement while at the village square there is a fountain and mosaics of the Saints. The village offers three traditional taverns- cafes as well as traditional guest houses. Additionally, based in Gouri are the ‘’Elpida’’ sports Association, the ‘’Toxotis Kentavros’’ Hunting Association and the Christian Women’s Association ‘’Saint Demetrios’’.

Agios (Saint) George church is located at the village centre. This is a stone-built church, which was constructed in the place of an older one which is dated around 1500A.D. With a written inscription, it informs us that the temples inauguration took place on May 24th 1898 during Archbishop Sofroniou. There are also different ecclesiastical vessels, relics and icons. The temple celebrates on April 23rd.
