Linear Trail

Persephone Nature trail is located on the mountaintop of NFP of Troodos, at the center of the largest forest area of Cyprus. Included in the main mountain ranges of the planet for the timelessness of its geology and natural beauty. Separated into two levels the highest top is at an altitude of 1952 meters, also known as Chionistra and the lowest is at 700 meters. Within the Nature Forest Park of Troodos, it is surrounded by natural forests with centenarian trees such as the Kalavria pine (Pinus brutia) and the golden oak (Quercus alnifolia) which are dominant at 1400 meters.

Mnimata Piskopon Trail in Cyprus

The ”Mnimata Piskopon” Nature Trail took its name after the three Cypriot Bishops who were murdered by the Turks. It’s another nature trail found withing the NATURA 2000 National Forest Park in Troodos. Along the route you will see black pines and have the privilege of an infinite view of the Chromium River and the valleys of Solea and Morfou. The latitude is less than 1400 meters. The finish line of the trail is located on the forest road Platania – Apother- Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis. With the ned of the route you can choose where to head from three options.
1. Towards the church of Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis
2. Towards the village of Kakopetria
3. Towards Platania camping
Alternatively, you can take another route such as the Kambos tou Livadiou Trail which connects directly to the specific trail.

Starting point

On the main Troodos – Karvounas road, 1.5 km before Troodos square (Plateia Troodous), 9 km from location Karvounas, at Kampos tou Livadiou picnic site. The starting point is approximately 300 m along the narrow paved road. Following a 1 km route on a path widened to accommodate ramblers using wheelchairs, a crossroad is reached with a wooden signpost: “Mnimata piskopon” (northwestern direction), to be followed. The first kilometre of this route is part of Kampos tou Livadiou trail. The trail ends at the loose surface road connecting location Platania with the church Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis.Length: 8 km – Duration: 3 hours (up to Platania – Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis loose surface road) – Degree of difficulty: 3

Points of interest

The trail goes through dense thickets of black pine, follows a course along the edge of cliffs, offering views towards the Chromium River, Solea Valley and Morfou Bay. The trail ends at Platania – Apotheri- Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis forest road, with a choice of three routes ending at Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis church, Kakopetria village and Platania picnic site respectively. The trail is linked with kampos tou Livadiou trail.

Livadi Trail in Cyprus

Circular Trail

The Livadi nature trail has a circular route 1.5km length and a duration of 30 minutes. It is one of the friendliest routes on the Troodos Mountain range due to the easy level of hiking experience it requires. As you trek you will discover a thick forest flooded with black pine, junipers and long living trees. From the forested region you will have the opportunity to observe the Chromium river and the Solea plain. The end of the trail is equally easy, return to the observation point and traverse for 100 meters. Then head towards the right, there are signs to guide you. In the forested region there was no wood exploitation since 1972, it is protected due to the water resources and the biodiversity of the natural beauty of the location.
Trekkers can visit it even for a day trip as the Kambos tou Livadiou camping space is located near. The space provides clean cooling water and there is the Troodos Visitor Centre where whoever wishes can learn about the mountain range, the flora and fauna of the region

The trail ”Loumata ton eronon” is distinguished for the high hiking difficulty due to ground changes of the island. Located in the mountain region of Limassol, 1100 meters above sea level, amongst a green oasis of pine trees and is a linear path 2,5 kilometres long. The trail passes by the camping site Almirolivado, passes a hillside, heads in company to the riverside, within abundant vegetation and finally ends at the Amiantos park. Along the route you will find the restored hideout of the military organisation EOKA and the river Loumata ton Aeton.
If a hiker chooses to continue to the northwest region of the hiking trail you will enter the woods and walk along the hills of the abandoned asbestos mine.
The location after transforms, to deserted steep mountains dominating the imposing site. The visitors must be careful as the need to trek upwards steep locations, however it is worth it.

Goes past an old restored E.O.K.A* hideout and ´Loumata ton aeton´stream. The trail can become circular by following roads towards S.E.K. Trade Union summer camping site.
*Ethniki Organosi Kyprion Agoniston (E.O.K.A), National Organisation of Cypriot Fighters, fought an anticolonial, liberation war during period 1955-59.

The waterfall is fames to takes its name after the combination of the two Cypriot words ”millos”. Meaning wet and the word ”meros”, meaning place. As the narrations says the coolness is exuded from Krio Protamo made the place wet and dewy. Hence millos +meri= Millomeri. The water descends from a height of 15 meters. Millomeri’s popularity has recently increased after different works took places in the region of Pano Platres. Millomeris waterfall similar to Kelidonia waterfall are considered the jewels of Pano Platres. A visit is worth it even for just viewing and a taste of ‘natural banquet’ that will keep you full for a long time.

Forest landscape. It starts from the source of the Karkoti river and it crosses the beautiful valley of the river. It passes neat the facilities of the closed chrome mine and ends up at the Kakopetria Village. The route can pass by the Church of Agios Nicolaos tis Stegis (12th century ), that has some excellent murals and it is included on the UNESCO World Heritage Site Catalogue. Right from the Church of Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis the walker can follow the paved road Pedoula – Kakopetrias for about 3 km to end up to the Kakopetria Village.

The Kampos tou Livadiou camping space, belongs to a peaceful tranquil hill of Troodos surrounded by a forested extent of pines. An indescribable view as the visitor has spread at his feet the hills, some taller some shorter, nonetheless unified in harmony. You can locate it via the three nature trails. Distinguished for its respect for people with disabilities as access for wheelchairs is allowed and for its friendliness towards every hiking visitor. At the Troodos-Amiantos central square you will find the sign to direct you. Be careful as you must pass through a dirt road to reach the forest area.

The Kalidonia waterfall is located in Pano Platres. It is included amongst the most charming, tallest waterfalls in Cyprus. To find thi fairytale place you must follow the uphill trail ”Psila Vouna” measuting 3km long and is classified as level 2 medium hiking experience. The waterfall was named after the ancient name of what is today, Scotland. What is told, after passing from the island the Scottish were impressed by the idyllic location which brough to mind their country, as a result they named it Kalidonia. The waterfalls at a speed of 13 meters play with the sunrays and create the ideal atmosphere of coolness and romanticism for whoever whishes to visit.

Circular Trail

Atalanti Nature Trail took its name after the mythological runner and trainee of the goddess Artemis. Brave and uncompromising, unwed woman who lived based on the values of Artemis. The route begins and end at the Troodos square. The outdoor shed of the starting point is located on the northwest of the Square behind the old post office building. If you reach Troodos in a vehicle there is a parking space available ta the Square.
The course of the route is not characterised by the high level of hiking difficulty. However, you must be especially prudent as you traverse as there are bulky rocks. The specific Trail is harmonised ideally with the Artemis Nature trail as of mutual level hiking routes. Both rotate around the Chionistra, however Atalanti Trail is of ground and altitude at a lower level. Its circular course is trekked amongst a cluster of thick black pine trees, additionally on your exploration you will come across Juniper trees, 800 years old. Points of interest

The trail goes around Chionistra at an altitude of 1700-1750 m., passing through dense thickets of Pinus Nigra and Troodos Juniper Phoenicia. One of the largest Junipers which is 800 years old can be found in the area. There is an outstanding view of the entire island. Of particular interest is the entrance to a disused chromium mine which ceased its operations in 1982. At 3 kms from the Troodos Square is a spring with drinking water.

1. Do not move outside the signs along the trail so that you can protect the rare plant types within the forested area.
2. Do not smoke and keep your food inside your backpacks. Protect the environmental treasure from unexpected fires.
3. Do not make unnecessary noise. Respect the natural world of the birds, the animals and enjoy the natural sounds.
4. Maintain the space clean. Leave your trash in the bins or choose to take them with you.
5. Spend the night in the visitors’ camp sites.
6. The entrance to vehicles within the path is not allowed.
7. Protect the natural beauty by avoiding cutting branches, bushes or unrooting plants and carving trees.
8. The lighting of fires in protected areas is strictly prohibited. Respect what is offered from nature and the camping site. Lighting fires is allowed ONLY in special barbecue sites.

taking its name after the dynamic, pioneer and Olympian Goddess Artemis, protector of wild animals, mountain, forests and leader of the Amazons.
The hiking route rotates around the Chionistra, at an altitude of 1850m. With the aiding signalling you can widen the forested scope. Along the trail you will find two of the longest living black pines, aging 500 years. In the forest there are many rare types of flora species such as the nepeta, the teucrium, the alison, the chamomile and the invisible and of unmatched notable value rocks such as dunite, harzburgite, pyroxenite.
Of similar historic importance and notability are the Wall of the Old Chora which are ruins of the fortification work structure during the last year of the Venetian period in Cyprus (1571 AD), by one of the military team of the Venetian with the goal to hold off the attack of the Ottomans. After the observation of the occupation of the at the time Chora ( Nisocia) powerless against the Ottomas the decided to surrender. The panoramic vies is unique. The visitors are like Olympian gods watching from above the outskirts of the Limassol, Paphos and Nicosia provinces surrounded by a verdant green treasure. The route is part of National Forest Park of Troodos, which is included in the NATURA 2000 region. The trail is not distinguished by a particular difficulty apart from its finish point, after the Skiing Centre, where the trail turns into an upward wave of an uphill route for 200-300 meters.

Points of interest

The Pinus Nigra forest, rare species of flora and rocks of the area. Of historic interest are the ruins of rough fortifications built during the final year of the Venetian occupation of Cyprus (1571 AD) by a group of Venetian generals who decided to put up a defence against the Ottomans at that point. The route is circular going round Olympos mountain peak (Chionistra) at an altitude of 1850m. Provides spectacular views in all directions. It ends at a point on the Atalanti trail.
